Charles Allen Harmon, age 65, of High Point passed away on January 18, 2014 at Genesis of Triad Nursing Home of High Point..
A native of Avery County, he was born December 31, 1948 a son of the late William Gaither and Lona Greene Harmon.
Charles was a member of the United States Army and served during Vietnam.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and golf.
Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his: brothers, Chester Harmon, J.D. Harmon, Rex Harmon; sister, Mildred Harmon.
Charles has left to cherish his memory his: sister, Velma Harmon of Greensboro, NC; brothers, Roy Harmon of Elk Park, Henry Harmon and wife Barbara of Drexel, NC; a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Charles Allen Harmon will be conducted on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 12:00 pm in the Elk Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. prior to the services at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Hanford Sanford Burleson, D. Jan. 16, 2014
Hanford Sanford Burleson, age 87, of Newland passed away on Thursday evening January 16, 2014 at Watauga Medical Center. Family members and fellow members of Newland Church of Jesus Christ were present.
A native of Avery County, he was born February 18, 1926 the youngest son of the late Rev. Harrison and Elizabeth Wiseman Burleson.
Hanford was an Alumni of Newland High School and worked most of his career as an electrician and also had a passion for agricultural crops of which he grew for the local Farmer’s Market and grocery stores.
He grew up as a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, which was organized and started by his father. He was a member of the Newland Church of Jesus Christ where he and his wife, Sally are stellar role models of Christian living.
Along with his parents, Hanford was preceded in death by his: three brothers and two sisters; Jason Burleson, Robert Burleson, Loren Burleson, Cleona Johnson and Emma Lou Pyatte.
Hanford has left to cherish his memory his wife, Sally Payne Burleson of the home; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and church family.
Funeral services for Hanford Sanford Burleson will be conducted on Sunday, January 19th at 2:30 p.m. at the Newland Church of Jesus Christ with Pastor Dave Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Church of Jesus Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. prior to the services.
Hanford’s pleasant smile and soft spoken greetings will be missed by family and friends alike.

Dr. Frances Earnest Waters, Jan. 12, 2014
Dr. Frances Earnest Waters, age 79, of Banner Elk passed away on January 12, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born June 6, 1934 in Kingsport, TN a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Mae McClaine Earnest.
Frances was a member of St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock where she sang in the choir and was involved in the Women’s Studies.
She earned her Doctorate of Philosophy, was a Music Teacher and enjoyed music, painting and sharing knowledge.
Along with being a musician, educator, creative and artistic, Frances was a devoted wife and mother who has left to cherish her memory her: husband, Joseph Waters of Banner Elk, NC and additional residence in Boone Lake, TN; sons, Evan Waters of Bisbee, AZ and Larry Waters and wife Katheryne of Louisville, KY; granddaughter, Caroline Waters of Louisville, KY; grandson, John Waters of Louisville, KY.
A Celebration of the Life of Dr. Frances Earnest Waters will be conducted on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 4:00 pm at the St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock with inurnment to follow in the St. Mary of the Hills Mary Garden.
