Danny Charles Sheppard, D. Feb. 10, 2013
Danny Charles Sheppard, age 51, of the Three Mile Community was called home by his Heavenly Father on February 10, 2013 from his residence.
A native of Avery County, he was born February 13, 1961 a son of Madeline Palmer Sheppard of Newland and the late Rev. Collis Sheppard.
Danny attended Temple Baptist Church and enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, hunting, gardening and wood working, but most of all sharing his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Along with his father, Danny was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Sheppard.
Danny has left to cherish his memory, along with his mother, his: wife, Dulcey Whitson Sheppard of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Dan Price of Pineola; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Catie Sheppard of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Rita Boger of Salisbury, NC, Brenda Rupard and husband Tommy of Woodleaf, NC, Barbara Shook and husband Lynn of Cleveland, NC; Kathy Shook of Salisbury, NC, Elizabeth Turbyfill and husband Michael of Banner Elk, Loretta Daniels and husband Rex of Newland, Anita Goforth and husband Keith of Banner Elk, Libby Brown and husband Cecil of Newland; brother, Stanley Sheppard and wife Liz of Newland; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Nancy Whitson of Green Mountain, NC; very special sisters-in-law, brothers in-law and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services for Danny Charles Sheppard will be conducted on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Gwyn, Rev. Gene Carver and Rev. Timothy Rupard officiating. Interment will follow in the Palmer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Tony Rupard, Sam Davis, Jamie Blair, Roger Whitson, Donald Whitson, Randy Carver, Larry Carver. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ricky Hodges. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Robert Sluder Sr., D. Feb. 10, 2013
Robert “Bob” Sluder, age 75, of the Birchfield Creek Community passed away on February 10, 2013 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.
He was born October 27, 1937 in Johnson City, TN the son of the late Walter Everett and Lou Emma Elrod Sluder.
Bob was a member of the Peoples Church on Roaring Creek.
He worked as a welder for Buck Stove and retired from CE Air Preheater, Inc. and enjoyed fishing, science fiction,golf and was an avid Tennessee Vols fan..
Bob has left to cherish his memory his: wife of 49 years, Mollie Sluder of the home; sons, Walter Sluder of Marion, Robert Sluder, Jr. and wife Tammy also of Marion; grandson, Josh Sluder of Marion; granddaughter, Amanda Sluder of Marion; great granddaughter, Kadence Sluder also of Marion.
Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Sluder will be conducted on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Peoples Church on Roaring Creek with Rev. Tony English and Mr. Larry Shook officiating. Interment will follow in the Lower Roaring Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Dr. Thomas Cochis, D. Feb 4, 2013
Dr. Thomas Cochis, age 76, of Land Harbor passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013, 18 days after his beloved wife, Catherine Cochis also age 76.
Thomas was a professor at Jacksonville State University in Alabama and Catherine was a teacher for the public school system.
They contributed to Wounded Warriors and enjoyed gardening and traveling together.
They have left to cherish their memories: their son, Mark Cochis and companion Barbara Lamb of Hollly Ridge, NC; Thomas’s sister, Marie Ramsey of Florida; their two grandchildren, Braston Cochis and Taren Cochis.
There are no services planned for Dr. and Mrs. Cochis at this time.
