Thomas H. Curlin Jr., Dec. 12, 2013

Devoted husband and father, Thomas H. Curlin, 67, left this world on December 12th to join our loving Father in Heaven. He spent his last days peacefully at home with his family and pets that meant so much to him.

Tommy grew up in a military family that moved frequently around the U.S. and to Germany. In April, 1990 he moved with his wife, Yvonne Blue Curlin and daughter Jaime to Crossnore to live in his wife’s grandmother’s house. It was here in this small community he was finally able to have a home, and put down roots. Over time he grew to love the mountains and the people here very deeply.

Tommy was frequently amazed and touched by the kindness of his neighbors in Avery County and beyond. When asked where he lived, he was so proud to say Crossnore! He was always grateful to the people here for their kindness and friendship over the years; and for taking him in to become a “local.”

Tommy joins in Heaven a daughter, niece, 2 sisters, grandmother and father.

He leaves behind his wife, Yvonne Blue Curlin; beloved daughters, Kim Kish and Jaime Johnson and her husband Joseph. Also, in-laws Russell and Marion Blue; sister-in-law and her husband, Karyn and Rob Tilman; his mother Louise Curlin; two sisters Marilyn and Llynette; several nieces, nephews and their children. His side of the family live mostly in the area of Nasheville, TN. Tommy’s great loves were such simple ones: family, friends, pets, nature and home. He felt lucky to be surrounded by these.

His family would like to send a special Thank-you to: Dr. McCracken, Dr. Tate, everyone at Hospice and Life Care and Gardens of the Blue Ridge. You made him feel special and loved while caring for him and his family. May the kindness you showed come back to you from others. You all are in our prayers.
