Oma Lea Clark Yates, D. March 29, 2013
Oma Lea Clark Yates, age 74, of Newland passed away on March 29, 2013 at her residence.
A native of Avery County, she was born April 4, 1938 a daughter of the late Myron and Victoria Townsend Clark.
She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Along with her parents, Oma was preceded in death by her: son, Raymond Dale Clark; sister, Daisy Snipes.
Oma has left to cherish her memory her: son, Randy Thomas Clark and wife Vanessa of Marion; daughter, Diane Clark of Newland; grandchildren, Teresa Hughes, Randy and wife Kylie Clark, Crystal Clark, Danielle and husband Dustin Cope; great grandchildren, Brandon Clark, Alex Lee Whisnant, Veronica Clark, Peyton Lynn Hughes, Cortnee Tate, Dawson Cope; brothers, Curtiss Clark, Arthur Clark, Ira Clark; sisters, Cora Lee Cook, Dorothy Bare; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Oma Lee Clark Yates will be conducted on Monday, April 1st at 8:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Betty Kaye Buchanan, D. March 28, 2013
Betty Kaye Buchanan,age 64, of Roan Mountain and formally of Roaring Creek passed away on March 28, 2013 at her residence.
A native of Avery County, she was born May 14, 1948 a daughter of the late Colonel and Radie Hughes.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her; husband, Avery Buchanan; sister, Paula Hughes.
Betty has left to cherish her memory her: daughter, Wyndy Pritchard of Newland; son, Michael Buchanan of Roan Mountain; grandchildren, Briana Pritchard of Roan Mountain, Jacob “Jake” Pritchard of Newland; great granddaughters, Zayleigh Townsend, Leah Buchanan; brothers, Doug Hughes, Dan Hughes, Jerry Hughes, Jack Hughes, Joey Hughes, Jeff Hughes; sister, Lucy Jones; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Betty Kaye Buchanan will be conducted on Saturday, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Jody Almond officiating. Interment will follow in the Hughes Cemetery on Jerry’s Creek. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.
Grace M. Smith, D. March 24, 2013
Grace M. Waters Smith, 103, of Boone passed away on March 24, 2013 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.
A native of New York, New York, she was born September 24, 1909 a daughter of the late Joseph Lawton and Emma Von Lent Miller.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and had served as a volunteer for many years at the Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA. One of the pleasures of her life was painting.
Along with her parents, Grace was preceded in death by he husbands, Joseph Larry Waters in 1959 and George S. Smith in 1984. She also preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Miller, Marie Dawson, and Eugene Miller.
Grace has left to cherish her memory her: son, Joseph Waters, and his wife, Frances, of Banner Elk; grandsons, Evan Waters of Bisbee, AZ, W. Larry Waters, and his wife, Katheryne, of Louisville, KY; great grandchildren, Caroline and John Waters.
Funeral services for Grace M. Smith will be conducted on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Brubaker officiating. The family will gather with friends immediately following the services.
Interment will follow at a later date in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Williamston, NC.
