Laura Polly Costner, D. April 11, 2013
Laura “Polly” Costner, 88, of Laurinburg, NC, passed away on April 11, 2013 at the Life Care Center in Banner Elk.
She was a native of Cleveland County, NC, and a daughter of the late Joseph Wheeler Costner and Cora Lee Canley Costner.
Services will be held on Sunday, April 14, in Laurinburg under the direction of Richard Boles Funeral Home.
Floyd “Skeeze” Cuthbertson, D. April 11, 2013
Floyd “Skeeze” Cuthbertson ,age 77, of Newland passed away on April 11, 2013 at his residence.
A native of Avery County, he was born May 7, 1935 a son of the late Joseph McKinley and Ruby Franklin Cuthbertson.
He was a member of Crossnore First Baptist Church and had worked as a bricklayer and shrubberyman.
Skeeze was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed going to Texas and Montana hunting. Skeeze and Nell loved riding on the parkway and looking for deer and turkey and enjoying the “scenic” views.
Along with his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his: sisters, Prudie Hutcheson, Lucille White; brothers, Sam Cuthbertson, Linnie Cuthbertson.
Floyd has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Nell Calhoun Cuthbertson of the home; daughters, Deborah Blalock and husband Bobby of Montezuma, Kelly Annas of Hickory; grand daughters, Shea Allison Blalock of Robbinsville, Jodie Marie Blalock of Banner Elk, McKinnley Annas of Hickory; a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Crossnore First Baptist Church. Funeral services for Floyd “Skeeze” Cuthbertson will be conducted on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Crossnore First Baptist Church with Rev. Lander Heafner officiating. Interment will follow in the Cuthbertson Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Cuthbertson will be; Danny Sparks, Rick Wise, Darrell Dellinger, Eddie Hutcheson, Dennis Henson, Bill Howard, Josh Henson, Mike White and Clay Cuthbertson. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Cuthbertson and Dale Henson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Crossnore First Baptist Church PO 370 Crossnore, NC 28616.

Virginia Naomi Barrier, D. April 6, 2013
Virginia Naomi Barrier, age 95, went to eternal peace April 6, 2013.
A retired educator, librarian, and alumnus of Duke University, she was an avid gardner, and book lover.
Virginia was born May 16, 1917, in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in Westfield, NJ., before settling in western NC.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, Harry Mac Connell and Ester Van Slyck Leon, her husband Arlee Barrier: and survived by, her daughter Lynda Rhem Lineberry, a son Grayson Leon Waldrop, a sister Henrietta Parker, and her daughter Deborah Parker, as well as 3 grandchildren, Kirk Robert Lundell, Stacey Lundell Barnes, and Matthew Van Slyck Waldrop.
A visitation will be held at Virginia’s home Friday, April 12, from 6-8 PM.
Graveside services will be held at the George W Barrier Cemetery, Saturday, April 13, at 3:00 PM.
A memorial sevice will be conducted at the Pineola Presbyterian Church at 4:00 PM, following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pineola Presbyterian Church, or library of your choice.

Chester “Chucky” Alton English, D. April 4, 2013
Chester “Chucky” Alton English, age 63, of Linville passed away on April 4, 2013 at Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
He was born April 24, 1949 in Spruce Pine, NC, a son of the late Herdie English and Bonnie Bell Thomas English Davis.
Chester was a member of the United Christian Church of Cleveland, TN and enjoyed playing music and singing.
Chester has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Gail English of Spruce Pine; daughters, Chestina English of Limestone, TN, Selena Frisbee and husband Bill of Linville, Charlene English of Spruce Pine; sisters, Lana Byrd of Kannapolis, Anita Kiser of Hickory; brothers, Perry English of Dallas, GA, Marty Davis of Hickory; niece, Leslie English Tibbits of Atlanta, GA; 9 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Chester Alton English will be conducted on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Donald Gragg officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.
