May 13, 2014. A new art exhibit, Phases of Grandfather, will be open to the public in the Dickson Gallery, Cannon Hospital, Linville through May and June with an opening reception on Sunday, May 18. The reception will run from 2-4 p.m. with relevant music and refreshments. Everyone in attendance will have a change to meet and talk with McLean.
“Phases of Grandfather is an honoring of the folks, gardens, rivers and reflections of my youth growing up at the foot of Grandfather Mountain,” said artist Treva McLean.
” I grew up under the tutelage of my grandmother Lena. The Cherokee dream horse, the sunflowers and the jack-in-the-pulpit are all images of that precious time spent beside the Watauga River as well as in it!”
McLean encodes mysterious maps and meanings into each painting, drawing and print. She was taught by Chief Two Trees and her own Lakota ancestors and creates in order to benefit humanity by purposeful art, world peace flags and land conservancy.
