Avery County Humane Society Elects New Officers, Looks Forward to Events in April and May

With the four-year anniversary of its new location approaching in May, the Avery County Humane Society has set out to greet the coming of spring with new officers and fun and exciting events and fundraisers. Don’t miss out on these chances to hang out with furry friends and help a good cause!

Easter Photos and Doggie Egg Hunt – April 8 

The Avery County Humane Society will welcome kids and pets of all ages to attend the organization’s Easter Egg Hunt. The event will take place at My Best Friend’s Barkery in downtown Banner Elk. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the hunt kicking off at 1 p.m. You can call (828) 898-5625 to set up an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Avery County Humane Society Participates in Bring Me Home Carolinas – April 8

The Avery County Humane Society will participate in state-wide program Bring Me Home Carolinas. Bring Me Home Carolinas is a “campaign with the singular goal to empty our local rescue shelters.” Sponsored by WBTV, the campaign will come to the Avery County Humane Society on Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will take place in the Avery County Humane Society shelter located at 279 New Vale Road in Newland. For more information on the campaign, click here.

Tour For Life 2017 at the Boone Mall – April 9

Tour For Life 2017 is an event hosted by the North Shore Animal League, a leading animal transport organization throughout the nation. Shelter employees from the Avery County Humane Society will partner with the Watauga Humane Society at the Boone Mall to host the event, which offers education and low-cost services such as nail trimming, microchips and rabies vaccinations.

There will also be live music, training demos from leading dog trainers in the area and more. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boone Mall located at 1180 Blowing Rock Road.

5th Annual Birthday Bash Fundraiser Celebration – May 20

The Avery County Humane Society will celebrate four years in its new location on Saturday, May 20 at the shelter. In the time leading up to the event, the Avery County Humane Society will continue to reach out to the community to collect items for a silent auction and gather donations that will help with the shelter’s costs.

All donations to the shelter are tax deductible, and donation receipts will be given out directly after the event. Avery County Humane Society Elects New Officers

New officers at the Avery County Humane Society will oversee these exciting events in the months to come. The shelter recently named Summer Watson as Treasurer, Joan Byer as Secretary, Nancy Morrison as Chair and Jesse Pope as Vice Chair. Each of the new officers is excited to help find loving homes for our furry friends of the High Country. Check out the new officers below.
