Feb. 2, 2015. Due to the winter weather, Watauga County Schools (WCS) and Avery County Schools (ACS) have called a snow day on Monday.
As WCS Supt. Scott Elliott noted on Friday, Saturday school would be on the table if any more school days were missed. On Saturday, Feb. 7, Watauga County Schools will operate on an early-release schedule. K-8 students will dismiss at noon, while high school ends at 1 p.m. On Saturday lunch will be served, buses will run usual routes. The after-school program will not be in session.
If school on Friday happens to be cancelled, then WCS will likely not have Saturday school.
Avery County Schools have been making up days throughout the school year by extending the school day by 20 minutes and opening school on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
