Autumn at the Art Cellar; Art Cellar Gallery in Banner Elk Continues an Exciting and Diverse Season of Art

Sept. 1, 2014. The Art Cellar Gallery in Banner Elk will continue an exciting and diverse season of art with several upcoming autumn events.

Howard Campbell and the Art of Woodrow P. Hill

Howard Campbell, also known as Woodrow P. Hill began his life in Oklahoma. Growing up an only child for the first eight years of his life left Howard very easily amused with himself and his surroundings. Many of his adventures as a child were where his artwork was derived as well as the landscape that surrounded him. Howard moved to the mountains of North Carolina from Florida in 1977 where his paintings started to reflect life in North Carolina. As well as a painter, Howard was also an avid antiques collector and used many findings in his work.

The Art Cellar Gallery will be spotlighting four of its artists in the upcoming exhibition, “Animals of Farm and Field.”

The show features the work of Carolyn Blaylock, Nancy Oppenheimer, Margaret Salisbury and Walter Stanford, as each interprets the animals that inhabit farms and fields. Different mediums have been employed, pastels, oils ad acrylics, to give these animals life on canvas and paper. Each of these artists are well collected and highly respected for the full range of their work.

These paintings, which range from playful to majestic, will be on exhibition from Sept. 17 through Oct. 18. The artists will each be in attendance for the opening reception which will be held Oct. 4 from 4-6 p.m. Meet the artists and learn about their artistic inspirations during this event.

An additional component to the exhibition will be goods and monetary donations that will benefit the Avery County Humane Society and the ever-growing need for care of these animals. Donations may be dropped off at The Art Cellar Gallery during the entire exhibition Sept. 16 through Oct. 18. The Humane Society is hoping for Purina Dry Food for dogs and cats young and old as well as other items that may be useful.
