by Madison V. Fisler

March 18, 2014. The long wait is almost over. Following a special 10:30 a.m. meeting of the UNC Board of Governors, presided by UNC Board of Governors Chairman Peter Hans and UNC President Tom Ross, the Appalachian State University Chancellor-elect will be announced at the Spangler Center in Chapel Hill, according to an email from Appalachian State University.

In addition, the incoming chancellor will meet with members of the campus community and make brief remarks beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 20 in Rivers Street Cafe in Central Dining Hall.

Appalachian State University’s Chancellor Search Committee nominated two candidates to UNC President Tom Ross and the UNC Board of Governors for consideration. The unanimous decision of the nominations was made Jan. 31.

The nomination process for the new chancellor has been thus far conducted as a closed search, so names of the candidates has not and will not be released until the announcement of the Chancellor-elect tomorrow morning.

The Chancellor Search Committee has been hard at work since August, when the first meeting was held, choosing candidates for the successor of Chancellor Ken Peacock.

Chancellor Ken Peacock announced his decision to step down from his position on April 18, 2013 once a suitable successor is found.
