By Jacquilyn Lavalle

Sept. 16, 2014. In need of volunteer opportunities and internships? ACT (Appalachian & the Community Together) will host the fifth imgresannual ACT Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The event will be held in Grandfather Ballroom on the first floor of the ASU Plemmons Student Union from 12-2 p.m.

ACT is Appalachian State University’s liaison between community partners and students in search of community service, service-learning and community-based research opportunities. The office provides a wealth of connections to agencies throughout the High Country.

Leonora Hall, a community engaged graduate assistant, has worked to coordinate the annual volunteer fair.

“The goal of the Volunteer Fair is to connect Appalachian Students and the surrounding community partners with students. The connections can lead to reciprocal relationships that allow students to have meaningful experiences working with local nonprofits while our community partners are provided with the time, talent, and support of Appalachian students,” Hall said.

The ACT Volunteer Fair hosts more than 20 local nonprofits each September and gives students the chance to explore volunteer or internship positions. Previously attracting more than 250 students, the number of attendees continues to grow each year.
