This year’s performing arts series begins its second half on Jan. 31, when River North Dance Chicago dances its way to the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts.
Celebrated for creating vital connections between dancer and audience as well as presenting gutsy and entertaining repertoire, River North Dance Chicago presents dynamic works that combine athletic prowess and artistic perspective with bold, theatrical flair.
River North Dance Chicago will perform at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for students.
This performance is part of a collaborative project with the South Arts Dance Touring Initiative, involving residency activities by River North Dance Chicago from January 29-31, scheduled across our the university and community. Residency activities and performances are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
The second exciting show in the spring 2014 Performing Arts Series lineup is the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
By performing without a conductor and integrating musicians into virtually every facet of the organization, Orpheus empowers its members and infuses performances with unparalleled energy. The Orpheus Process™, an original method that places democracy at the center of artistic execution, has been the focus of studies at Harvard and Stanford, and of leadership seminars at Morgan Stanley and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital, among others.
Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will perform on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets for the show are $20 each for adults and $10 for students.
Next in the lineup is STOMP, which will premiere in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, March 4 at 8 p.m. According to the PAS website, “The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms.”
Tickets for STOMP are $38 for adults and $18 for students.
Finally, on Thursday, April 3, at 8 p.m. the Montana Repertory Theatre will perform “The Miracle Worker” at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts.
The Miracle Worker tells the story of Helen Keller, deaf and blind since infancy, who finds her way into the world of knowledge and understanding with the help of Anne Sullivan, her gifted tutor. In some of the most turbulent and emotion packed scenes ever presented on the stage, Helen overcomes rage and confusion to triumph over her physical disabilities.
Tickets to this remarkable show are $20 per person or $10 for students.
