As Major Changes Approach, Mayland First in State To Offer Computer-Based GED Testing

Aug. 26, 2013. Mayland’s Adult Education Program was selected as one of two pilot sites in North Carolina for GED® testing on computer. Mayland received the option to offer computer-based testing along with traditional paper-based testing for the rest of 2013. In return for piloting the new process, Mayland received vouchers that allow students to test completely free of charge.

By January 2014, all GED® tests nationwide will be administered only by computer, and students who have not completed will have their scores expire so the new version can be offered.

Brandi Doyle was the first student in the state to take advantage of the computer-based tests. Doyle passed all five tests and earned her GED® diploma.

Doyle says the computer-based version is “easy to use and faster than the practice tests she took on paper. Doyle plans to explore the new career and college options available to her now that she’s a graduate.

Anna Glenn of Bakersville is also in the process of finishing her GED® tests on computer. Glenn has already scored very high on three of five tests and will finish in the near future. Glenn wants to pursue nursing after she earns her GED® diploma and feels that taking the tests on computer has sped up the process.

If you have started GED® testing and have not finished, it’s more important than ever to do so. The last day to test before current scores expire is December 17th, 2013.

Many changes are coming, and some may seem confusing. Mayland’s Adult Education team is eager to personally discuss these changes and your specific situation.
