The 2016 Lowell Thomas Artists in Residence at Edgewood Cottage series marked its opening for this season last Sunday welcoming participating artists, members of the Blowing Rock Historical Society & local & area visitors & friends for a preview of what is to come from the artists who will be exhibiting in this annual series.
Sponsored by the BRHS, this event is celebrating its eighth year in Blowing Rock hosted in Edgewood Cottage, & will feature a record thirty-four local & area artists over a period of eight weeks from June 16th until August 26th. Each week will feature different artists & their respective work beginning on Thursdays & running through the Tuesday of the following week. The cottage will be closed on the Wednesdays of each week to allow installation of the next show.
Hundreds of visitors – local, area & vacationing – are expected to enjoy the exhibits each week. Edgewood Cottage, the first home & studio of renowned artist, Elliott Daingerfield, offers a cozy setting for the display of art. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the works as well as to meet & personally chat with the artists. All works will be available for purchase.
This year, there is a wide variety & array of mediums represented including but not limited to oil, acrylic, alcohol ink, pencil, collage, handmade paper, pottery, ceramic art, photography, wood, fiber & much more.
The Alumni from the 2015 series will kick off the 2016 season exhibiting as a group June 16-21. Participating in this show will be Kim & Paul Fuelling – woodworking & oil; David Wilson, – oil; Jeremy Sams – acrylic; Shirley Story – watercolor; Pat Moritz – contemporary basketry; Mary Wiley Jones – oil; Judy Rider – watercolor; Tim Larson – watercolor, acrylic & oil & Jeff Aliberti – photography.
Local residents, vacationing visitors & all passers-through the village of Blowing Rock are cordially invited to drop in to enjoy the interesting, creative, impressive works from the artists exhibiting each week throughout the summer in the 2016 Lowell Thomas Artists in Residence at Edgewood Cottage series. Admission is free.
The mission of this annual event, sponsored by the Blowing Rock Historical Society & made possible by a grant from the Watauga County Arts Council & Grassroots Funds of the North Carolina Arts Council, is to promote, present & celebrate the arts by showcasing the work of artists in the NC High Country.
