Art on the Greene in Banner Elk Showcases Regional and National Artists’ Work, July 1-2

By Katelyn Jenkins

Art on the Greene will be taking place July 1-2 at the Historic Banner Elk School. This event happens three times a year — Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekend.

This event allows regional and national artists to showcase their handmade arts and crafts on the green.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. you can enjoy artwork from metal artists, glass artists, potters, and high-quality jewelry makers and talented painters. Wood workers also bring their beautifully sculpted furniture and home decor wood items to sell.

Proceeds from the shows go towards the restoration of the historic building. Built in 1939, the school was used as a Works Progress Administration project during the Great Depression.

There will be food vendors and other entertainment such as live demonstrations all day long.

It is free to the public and all ages are welcome.

The event is located at Historic Banner Elk School, 140 Azalea Circle
Banner Elk, NC 28604.

For more information, schedules and vendor applications visit the Banner Elk Website or call 828-387-0581.
