Dec. 20, 2012. The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 2013 Watauga Leadership Challenge. This program provides a comprehensive overview of the community and introduces participants to leaders in the fields of government, education, health care and business and industry.
Jason Triplett, market president of Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. said, “Participants gain a realistic understanding of how our community works. They learn from the movers and shakers – the people who have a vision for the future. The program benefits the community as well, because Watauga Leadership identifies potential leaders and gives them the encouragement needed to spur them on to local action and involvement. Wells Fargo believes in the Watauga Leadership Challenge so strongly that we have committed to be the Signature Sponsor of this leadership development program.”
“Because of the intensity of the program, Watauga Leadership participants and their employers are asked to make a major time commitment,” said Dan Meyer, the Chamber’s president/CEO. “We begin with a day-and-a-half retreat in January, designed to build a sense of teamwork among the participants. It also sets the stage for the program’s six full-day sessions scheduled monthly until graduation in July, 2013.”
Topics include: Tourism Development, Business & Economy, Media Relations & Communications, Infrastructure/Environmental Issues, Education, Local & State Government, Community Health Care and the Local Impact of Appalachian State University.
The 2013 Leadership class is limited to 20 participants with preference given to Watauga County residents. Tuition is $495, which includes program materials, luncheons, refreshments and graduation certificates.
For more information or to receive an application for enrollment, contact the Chamber at 264-2225. The deadline to apply is January 4, 2013.
