THIS SATURDAY: Apple Barn to Host Benefit Auction for Valle Crucis Community Park

The Valle Crucis Community Park will hold its 32nd annual benefit auction Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Apple Barn at the Valle Crucis Conference Center.

The auction will begin with item preview, along with breakfast and beverage service, at 9 a.m. Breakfast is $8 per person. A cash bar will also be available.

Bidding kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with auctioneers Bill Knox and Anne Rasheed overseeing the sales.

The auction features a variety of items including original artwork from such artists as Kathy Reece and Lynn Willis; gift certificates and merchandise from dozens of local restaurants, businesses and attractions; and antiques, treasures and various other items of interest donated by area residents. Among the hottest items auctioned off are reserved front row parking spaces at the park for the entire 2017 Music in the Valle concert series.

The auction is the park’s major fund-raising effort of the year, providing up to 20 percent of its operating budget. The park is a private, 501(c)3 non-profit organization funded entirely by donations and grants, so the auction is a vital part of the park’s financial stability.

Situated on the banks of the Watauga River, Valle Crucis Park provides a paved walking and jogging track, sports fields, playgrounds, open recreational spaces, access to the river for fishing and wading, picnicking areas, covered pavilions for events and parties, environmental education programming, and year-round birding opportunities.

The park also recently opened its welcome center, complete with offices for park staff, a conference room and space for environmental programs, display areas, and public restrooms.

For more information about the auction, contact Caroline Gandy, the park’s Executive Director, at 828-963-9239 or caroline@vallecrucispark.org. To learn more about the park, drop by for a visit or check out www.vallecrucispark.com.
