Oct. 13, 2014. The Walker College of Business at Appalachian State Univesrity is featured in the Princeton Review’s 2015 edition of “The Best 296 Business Schools.” This honors the college as one of the nation’s most outstanding business schools, according to the review.
“We are very proud to once again be recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the best business schools,” said Heather Norris, acting dean of the Walker College of Business.
“Through all that we do, we provide opportunities for students to connect with industry as they transition in their post-graduate lives. We are thrilled to be recognized for the accomplishments of our very excellent programs, faculty, students and staff.”
The review does not rank the 296 schools in the book but does offer 11 ranking categories where the review names the top 10 schools in each.
“We chose the schools we profile in this book based on our high regard for their academic programs and our reviews of institutional data we collect from the schools,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review senior vice president-publisher. “We also solicit and greatly respect the opinions of students attending these schools who rate and report on their experiences at them on our 80-question student survey for the book.”
“The Best 296 Business Schools: 2015 Edition” features two-page profiles of each school with descriptions of their academics, student life and admissions.
In the school’s future, editors said the Walker College of Businesses offers a “small, efficient and affordable MBA program,” highlighting that an MBA at Appalachian can take one year to complete and includes opportunities for international education.
“Appalachian’s MBA covers all functional areas of business, including accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, operations, and information systems,” editors said. “In addition to the core curriculum, students have the option of tailoring their education through a concentration in one of four fields: sustainable business, international business, general management or economics.”
In the student survey, The Princeton Review asked Walker College of Business students about their school’s academics, student body and campus life as well as about themselves and their career plans.
In the survey, students said that the Walker College of Business fosters happy students with “solid preparation” in accounting, presentation skills and doing business in a global economy.
One student reported to the review that the Walker College of Business’ “teachers are knowledgeable and excited for students to learn.” Another reported that they have been able to “gain the knowledge they will need to compete in today’s global economy.”
The profile of the Walker College of Business also includes information collected in five categories: general information, students, academics, financial facts and admissions.
Student survey data for the 2015 edition was collected in the three previous academic years – 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14. All institutional data included in the 2015 edition was collected in 2013-14.
