Nov. 7, 2014. While the official launch is not planned until the spring of 2015 , preparations for Appalachian State’s new television station are in full throttle. AppCable will hold live auditions for “Sports Bar,” one of many original programs planned for the channel, at The Rock Sports Bar & Grill on Nov. 12 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Students are invited to join “The Voice of the Mountaineers” and the host of “Sports Bar”, David Jackson as he seeks panelists to appear on the weekly show. Jackson, who also serves as Associate Athletics Director at App State, is looking for men and women who are sports fanatics and have a desire to sound-off to demonstrate their knowledge.

“Students who believe they have what it takes should come for an off-the-cuff audition where they will be asked to cover a variety of topics from App State athletics to national sports,” Jackson said.

Auditions will take place in front of a live audience of patrons at The Rock, a restaurant located in the Walmart Shopping Center. The winners will be selected to co-host “Sports Bar;” a thirty minute look into trending sports news.

The newly-created station is a project of Appalachian State’s renowned Electronic Media & Broadcasting program and aims to take campus television to the next level. The station plans to showcase the High Country community’s immense range of assets by utilizing the production skills of students in a way that has never been attempted at any academic institution in the country.

The station will operate with state-of-the-art production facilities. Student interns, volunteers and general manager, Michael Fields, are working together to provide the best programming for the station. Fields is a radio and television production and management veteran, with more than four decades of hands-on experience in the industry.

The entire program schedule will be streamed on the Internet and viewable anywhere in the world, making the AppCable an important outlet for telling App State’s story to an international audience.

Administrative offices and studio facilities are located in the new George G. Beasley Media Complex at the corner of Depot and Rivers streets in Boone. The 18,000 square-foot building provides studios, classrooms and labs for students, and offices for faculty members in the College of Fine and Applied Arts’ Department of Communication.
