Appalachian State’s Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writer Series Begins Sept. 17, Showcasing Moisés Kaufman, Robert Morgan, Peter Fish and Toi Derricotte

 

Starting Monday, Sept. 17, Appalachian State University will be hosting their annual Visiting Writer Series in the Plemmons Student Union, featuring Moisés Kaufman, Robert Morgan, Peter Fish and Toi Derricotte.

Moisés Kaufman, playwright of The Laramie Project, will do a reading Monday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the Parkway Ballroom of Plemmons Student Union, room 420. The Laramie Project is based around the true story of the 1998 murder of a gay student, Matthew Shepard, at the University of Wyoming, bringing attention to sexual discrimination and violence.

Robert Morgan, author of Chasing the North Star, Dark Energy, Boone: A Biography and Gap Creek, will participate in a “Craft Talk” about poetry and voice Thursday, Sept. 27, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union. Morgan will also do a reading at 7:30 p.m. in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union, room 201B.

Peter Fish, writer for San Francisco Chronicle, AFAR, Houzz and Sunset Magazine, will do a “Craft Talk” about questions of travel Thursday, Oct. 4, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union. Fish will participate in a drop-in reception from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the Price Lake Room of Plemmons Student Union, room 201A. Fish will also do a reading at 7:30 p.m. in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union, room 201B.

Toi Derricotte, author of The Undertaker’s Daughter, Tender and The Black Notebooks, will do a “Craft Talk” about how one poem can change one’s life Thursday, Nov. 8, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union. Derricotte will also do a reading at 7:30 p.m. in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union, room 201B.
