Appalachian State University Welcomes Families and Friends for Family Weekend Event Held Oct. 31-Nov. 2

Oct. 30, 2014. This weekend, Appalachian State University will host parents and family members of students and faculty during the school’s annual Family Weekend. From Oct. 31-Nov. 2, the university will welcome families to campus and offer a variety of activities, sports events and much more.

Check out the weekend’s schedule of events below:

Friday, Oct. 31

  • 3 p.m. – ASU Field Hockey v. Longwood
  • 4-6 p.m. – Early tailgate registration
  • 4-6 p.m. – 14th annual Downtown Boone BOO!
  • 5 p.m. – A taste of Boone and Blowing Rock (discounts offered at local restaurants)
  • 6:30 p.m. – Family costume contest at I.G. Greer
  • 7 p.m. – Guardians of the Galaxy screening at I.G. Greer
  • 7 p.m. – The Shining screening at Greenbriar Cinema

Saturday, Nov. 1

  • 7 a.m. – Fun Run/Walk on Campus with J.J Brown and Coach Jim Fox
  • 9:30 a.m. – Welcome Breakfast, Summit Trail Solarium
  • 12 p.m. – Walk of Champions
  • 12:30 p.m. – Family Tailgate at Edwin Duncan Field
  • 3:30 p.m. – Appalachian State v. Georgia State football game
  • 7 p.m. – Guardians of the Galaxy Screening at I.G. Greer
  • 9:30 p.m. – Guardians of the Galaxy screening at I.G. Greer

Sunday, Nov. 2

  • 9 a.m. – Hiking with Outdoor Programs
  • 9:30 a.m. – ASUv Cumberland University wrestling, Varsity Gym
  • 12 p.m. – ASU V. UT Arlington Volleyball, Holmes Convocation Center
  • 12:30 p.m. – Appalachian v. Buffalo wrestling, Varsity Gym
  • 12:30 p.m. – Self-guided tours at Belk Library and Information Commons
  • 1 p.m. – ASU v. Virginia Commonwealth field hockey
  • 1 p.m.  – University Bookstore opens

Parking on campus and in Boone can be tricky for visitors. Incoming families are require to park in Rivers Street Parking Deck located on Rivers Street. After 5 p.m., families may park anywhere on campus unless otherwise posted. Due to the game on Saturday, parents and families are asked to park for free at the Human Services lot located at 126 Poplar Grove Extension, and take the AppalCART to Raley Circle. The bus will begin to run at 9 a.m. and will continue for two hours after the football game. For more information about parking, please call the Parking Office at 828-262-2878.

Travelers should allow ample time for travel, as traffic will be more prominent due to the visitors in the High Country this weekend.
