ASU Police Responds To Unattended Death on College Campus Thursday Morning, No Foul Play Suspected

Update – Appalachian State University issued this update at about 4 p.m. on Thursday:

Appalachian State University student Jeremy A. Sprinkle, an 18-year-old freshman from Kernersville, was found deceased in his campus residence hall Thursday morning. The official cause of death has not yet been determined; however, foul play is not suspected and there is no evidence to suggest there is any threat to the university community.

The university is offering counseling to friends and others on campus affected by Jeremy’s death.

No other information will be forthcoming at this time.

Nov. 13, 2014. Appalachian State University Police responded to an unattended death on the college campus on Thursday morning, according to a statement the police department sent out to members of the Appalachian community – faculty, students and staff. The alert was also posted on the University Police website.

The report of the death came at 8:45 a.m.

“The incident does not appear to be suspicious in nature and no foul play is suspected. This situation presents no threat to the university community,” according to the statement. “ASU Police are continuing to investigate the incident.”

A phone call to ASU Police Chief Gunther Doerr was referred to ASU spokeswoman Jane Nicholson, who said no additional information was available at this time.

The Appalachian, the college newspaper, reported that “an ambulance was dispatched to Lovill Residence Hall” Thursday morning.
