Appalachian State Celebrates Homecoming Oct. 11-12; What Are Your Plans for This Annual Celebration?

Oct. 10, 2013. Appalachian State University’s 2013 Homecoming weekend is almost upon us! This year’s Homecoming Weekend will feature activities and events for students, alumni, families and the entire community to enjoy. 

From Friday through Sunday, there are many events, both on and off campus, that will provide a great time for everyone. Read on to find out what exciting events are going on in your neck of the woods to help you celebrate Appalachian State’s Homecoming. There is so much more than just football to celebrate this festive occasion!

Friday, Oct. 11

Lip Sync Finals: The “Spirit Under the Stars” lip sync finals will be held on Sanford Mall at 6 p.m. All students, alumni and the community are invited to attend this screaming good time. This year’s theme is “Yosef Loves the 90s.” Come cheer on your favorite finalists. 

Friday Night Dance: The annual Friday Night Dance will be held at Legends on ASU campus at 8 p.m.

Pep Rally: The annual Pep Rally will be held on Sanford Mall at 8 p.m. immediately following the lip sync finals. Please note that this is a change from previous years where the Pep Rally was held on Duck Pond Field. Due to the venue change, there will be no bonfire this year. 

The Knob: The Knob is an annual 2-mile race up Howard’s Knob, and is the third and final race in the 2013 High Country Triple Crown series. The race will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Watauga County Public Library. 

Gospel Celebration: At midnight, join in the fun at the Rosen Concert Hall for a midnight gospel celebration.

Saturday, Oct. 12

Homecoming Parade: The annual Homecoming Parade will be marching through Downtown Boone starting at 10:30 a.m. The parade begins in the Raley parking lot and will follow continue down Rivers Street, onto Water Street, then onto King Street through downtown Boone. This year’s grand marshals are Chancellor and Mrs. Peacock.

Mountaineer Tailgate Party: The Mountaineer tailgate party will be held on Duck Pond Field at 11 a.m.

5K Homecoming Run for Hunger: The First Annual 5K Homecoming Run for Hunger will benefit the Hunger & Health Coalition’s Food Pantry program. The 5K Run / Walk starts early, leaving plenty of time for tailgating before the game. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts promptly at 9 a.m. at the Mayors Park on the Greenway Trail in Boone.

Homecoming Football Game: Head over to Kidd Brewer Stadium at 3:30 p.m. to watch the Mountaineers face off against rivals Samford for the annual Homecoming football game.
