Feb. 17, 2015. On Sunday, Feb. 22, Appalachian Ski Mtn.’s Terrain Park will host the final Shred for the Cup event of the 2015 season. The Volcom/Electric Slopestyle Finals will officially begin at noon.

From Appalachian Ski Mtn’s website:

volcom-electric-sftc-slopestyle-finalsCourse construction is scheduled throughout the week in Appal Jam and Candied Appal, as always we will have features and lines available for each category – something for everyone! Volcom and Electric will be on the hill supporting the event and Mellow Mushroom will be out as well, offering delicious pizza for all competitors! We are definitely in a wintry pattern for the next week, which should provide ample snow for lots of fun features, and good conditions.

Throughout the season, individual riders are given points for placement in each of the three events held all season long which are added up at the very end to determine the series winners for the year. The current standings are available here.

“This series appeals to all abilities, both skiers and snowboarders,” said Drew Stanley of Appalachian Ski Mtn.

“When we design the courses, we make sure there are options for all levels of rider. Many events/competitions you see like this are geared towards expert riders only, but we make a conscious effort to have features and divisions for all levels. We also see more spectators enjoying these events and offer free spectator tickets to get on the snow to watch the action up close. There is a real energy with the live music, Pizza from Mellow Mushroom, sponsor tents, and all the riders that is very fun to watch and be a part of.”

Registration for the last Shred for the Cup event of 2015 will be held at the Alpine Ski Shop from 9-11 a.m. Registration is $20 per person in advance here, or registration is available the day of the event. Registration on-site will be followed by a warm-up session from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and a meeting at 11:45. The competition itself will begin at noon.

If you want to come and watch the event, it’s free for spectators to attend! Free spectator tickets are available at registration and at the main office and are required for slope access to watch the event without equipment.

Like all great competitions, this one has some fabulous prizes up for the taking that cover more than 20 categories. Generous sponsors for this event are Volcom and Electric.

This event is the final Shred for the Cup event for the season.

“The season for Shred for the Cup has gone very well,” Stanley said.

“We have had great feedback from everyone involved, and since we have been hosting SFTC for nine years now, the whole process is very refined and runs smoothly. Participation has been consistent and very good among athletes, we had around 75 competitors that came out for our last event, Big Air.”

A small part of the reason for success, Stanley maintains, is the great weather the High Country has enjoyed this year. But in large part, the success lies with the dedication of participants – fair weather or not.

“Weather definitely helps, and we always hope for good conditions and blue skies,” he said. “What I am impressed with, though, is how dedicated the competitors are even when the forecast looks less than ideal. Both rain and fog were in the forecast for the first event, the rail jam, and especially in the morning, warm ups were soupy and very wet – not ideal at all. But that didn’t stop over 60 skiers and snowboarders from coming out and shredding for the event anyway!”

But just because this is the final Shred for the Cup competition of the season doesn’t mean the fun at the slopes stops here! For more events at Appalachian Ski Mtn., click here.
