Appalachian Roller Derby Hosts Annual Fresh Meat Boot Camp This Sunday, September 9th

It’s that time again! The Appalachian Roller Derby team is hosting their annual boot camp! If you’ve ever been interested in learning the ins and outs of roller derby, now is your chance. Whether you are interested in joining the team as a skater, a referee, or a non-skating official, feel free to come out on September 9th from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. out at Skateworld in Vilas.

Skaters will be going over all of the basics to give everyone a taste of roller derby. You’ll learn how to fall, skate, stop and much more. No experience required. All needed gear will be provided. Bring yourself and a mouthguard, and wear clothes you’re comfortable working out in. You can pre-register on the Appalachian Roller Derby Facebook page, which will cost $30, or pay $35 at the door.

Interested women can try out the sport with guidance from the Appalachian Roller Derby team at Skateworld in Vilas during the Boot Camp.

“Boot Camp is where I learned the basics of skating and roller derby,” says Emily “Dollfin” Wentworth. “I met people at Boot Camp who became lifelong friends. I definitely think it’s a great break from studying.”

If you think you have what it takes, come out September 9 and give it a try. The Appalachian Roller Derby team looks forward to seeing you there!
