Oct. 8, 2014. On Friday, Oct. 10, Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation will host the second annual Pink Day. Show your support of Breast Cancer Awareness by sporting your pink. Don’t own any pink clothing? Pink apparel is available for purchase in Appalachian 
Regional Healthcare System’s gift shops. Celebrations will be held at the Cannon Memorial Hospital lobby from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and again at the Watauga Medical Center auditorium from 2 a.m. – 4 p.m. Healthy pink refreshments, valuable information and door prizes will be given out during each event. Pink Day will kick off at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville. Guest speakers will take the stage from 11:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Representatives will be scheduling mammograms as well as answering any questions for guests in attendance. The event will repeat at Watauga Medical Center with guest speakers beginning at 2:30 p.m.
“Pink Day is a multipurpose event in which we raise awareness about breast health services offered here in the High Country as well as an awareness to funds that serve women needing financial support for mammograms. Additionally we raise awareness for our cancer patient emergency fund,” said Beth Miller, ARHS Director of Imaging, Laboratory and Pathology Services.
“We celebrate our survivors, fighters and caregivers. We also have a strong volunteer network that includes cancer survivors who share their individual breast cancer stories.”
Pink Day works to spread community awareness and support for the fight against breast cancer. Appalachian State University Students are among these community supporters. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, students put together gift bags for patients having mammograms during the month of October. These volunteers also played a role in putting together Pink Day.
“It was a rewarding, emotional reminder of how ARHS provides compassionate care for our community,” Miller said of Pink Day 2013. “Pink Day also served to remind our staff of the role we all play together in providing care to our patients.”
Eleven beautiful rose quartz gems donated by Doc’s Rocks will be raffled off at 4 p.m. at the Watauga Medical Center. Tickets are on sale individually for $5 or 5 for $20. To purchase, participants may contact the following ARHS employees:

Participants are not required to be present in order to win.
All proceeds will benefit the Cancer Center Emergency Fund and the Wilma Redmond Mammography Fund.
