Appalachian District Health Department Announces Three New Board Members

Jan. 28, 2014. The Appalachian District Health Department is pleased to announce the three newest appointees to the Board of Health. They are Natasha Greer-Pennington (Pharmacist, Ashe County), Randy Revis (Public, Ashe County), and Jeffrey Tiller (Engineer, Watauga County). Members are appointed for a three-year term and participate on an eighteen-member board consisting of members from Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga Counties.

ADHDThe role of the Board of Health is to establish public health policy, promote health for the community and be an advocate for all citizens. “The Appalachian District Board of Health works hard to support our mission to promote healthy living, prevent disease, and protect the environment,” said Beth Lovette, Health Director.

Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga County Commissioners each select a member from their board to serve on the Board of Health. The appointed County Commissioner members of the Board of Health appoint members from each county for a 3 year term of service and the Members may be reappointed for a maximum of three consecutive terms. Specific professions are required by general statute to be members.  Ken Richardson (Alleghany County public member) serves as Chair and David Triplett (Watauga County public member) serves as Vice-chair. District board members also include Bob Edwards, Annette Wagoner, and Commissioner Karen Leys for Alleghany County, Katrina Miller, Sue Hampton, Dr. Joel Yates, and Commissioner Judy Poe for Ashe County, and Dr. Daniel Krontz, Lee Jackson, Dr. Howard Johnson, Dr. Bill Herring, Mary Cavanaugh, and Commissioner Perry Yates for Watauga County.

For the recent Ashe County vacancies, the County advertised and accepted written applications for the positions.  Ashe County Commissioner, Judy Poe, expressed her gratitude to the new appointees. “I appreciate the individuals who freely give of their personal time to serve on the health department board. It takes time, a personal commitment, and willingness to serve our fellow citizens.”
