The High Country’s favorite hard-hitting ladies, the Appalachian Rollergirls, are back this weekend for their final home bout of the season with a double header at Holmes Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 27.
The fun begins with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. and a 4 p.m. bout as the ARG Boone Shiners team takes on the Chattanooga Rollergirls B-Railers.
“Chattanooga has a strong team and it should be a pretty hard-hitting game. We have some heavy hitters and they have some heavy hitters, so it should be a fun game to watch and to play,” said Billie Jo Mosley, known as “Tutu LaRue” on the track, a blocker for the ARG.
Following the first bout, the ARG and Chattanooga All-Stars will go head-to-head in a 6 p.m. game to close out the season.
“We have had a really good season. As a team, we have grown a lot,” Mosley said. “I love to play and I love working with my team. We’ve been working together all season and have built a really good defense and we can communicate really well with each other now. It’s really an empowering feeling when we can control the other jammer and everything is really calm in the middle of the chaos.”
The next home bout promises a good time for specators, too.
“At every game, the team is very accessible to the fans. We encourage them to come down to the track and slap hands before and after the games,” said Mosley. “The crowd gets to interact with the players, there’s a lot of action and there’s a lot of opportunity for them to get involved in the game. It’s a lot of fun.”
A portion of the proceeds from Saturday’s event will support The Children’s Council of Watauga County.
Tickets are available online at holmescenter.com/events or in person at Lucky Penny, Piedmont Federal Savings Bank or the Holmes Center box office.
“We are a part of this community,” Mosley said. “We want support from the community, and it’s important for us to be out there, to be involved and to give back, as well.”
Get yours for $12 in advance or $15 at the door ($8 in advance or $10 at the door with valid student ID). Admission is free for all kids under 10.
