Boone, N.C. (August 14, 2018) – Anyone Can Dance!, a pay-what-you-can dance program, offers ballet and tap classes to all children regardless of financial ability. Started in January 2018, the program held its first recital with 30 dancers on April 28th, 2018. This fall, Anyone Can Dance! is bringing a new program to the High Country: Heart of Dance. Heart of Dance is a team of 10-12 dancers ages 6-12 who meet once a week for a rehearsal.
Dancers will work on various styles of dance, such as ballet, tap, jazz, modern and contemporary, though dancers do not need experience in all disciplines. Each dancer will learn 2-3 dances, which they will perform at local institutions, such as retirement homes. The goal of Heart of Dance is to connect the community, building bridges between people who might not normally interact.
Heart of Dance members must pay a $15 fee for the year, which covers the cost of a T-shirt and team-building activities. The team will be capped at 12 dancers this year based on time of sign-up. Dancers must be able to attend the rehearsals, which are held on Saturdays from 11-11:45am at Northwestern Studios every week from August 25th until early April. Performances will be announced at least a month in advance, and most will occur on Saturdays. All dancers ages 6-12 from Boone and the High Country are welcome to participate.
