The Boone Golf Club hosted Casa Rustica’s 10th annual Peter Pedroni Memorial Golf Tournament, which raised funds for the High Country Caregiver Foundation, on Thursday.

The four-man captain’s choice tournament drew a crowd of local residents who showed their skills in support of the beneficiary; tournament founders, Rick and Sara Pedroni of Casa Rustica, CR Catering and the Fairway Café; and its namesake, Rick’s father.

Players and supporters enjoyed drinks and celebration over a prime rib dinner on Wednesday night at the club, as well as a live auction and raffle led by auctioneer Jesse Miller, also of First Security Insurance in Hickory.

“Overall, I would give the tournament a 10. It was wonderful,” Rick said. “We did the live auction this year and that was really cool. I think everybody had a lot of fun doing that.”

This year’s 2 p.m. shotgun start allowed the course to operate for a half-day before the tournament began, as well as offered time for this year’s 120 players to enjoy lunch together before they hit the course.

Although no one made a hole-in-one this time around, those prizes included a car from Ross Chrysler Jeep Dodge, $5,000 from New River Tire and a trip to French Lake Golf Resort on the eighth hole and $15,000 and a set of golf clubs on another.

In its 10 years of operation, only one player has earned the hole-in-one prize.

Fundraising totals aren’t in just yet, but Rick said it was another great year in support of the HCCF.

“We have done a lot of charitable work for a lot of different people and we really gravitate toward the High Country Caregivers because of their code of ethics, what we believe in and the great job we think they do with where the money goes,” he explained.

With a team score of 55, Danny Wilcox, Taylor Young, Landon Clark and David Alvarado took first place in the tournament. Following closely behind them with second place were Josh Stapleton, Gabe Hughes, Chance Watson and Seth Phillips.

“I want to say thank you to all of the volunteers who came out, to my wife and to everyone that has helped us get the word out,” said Rick. “They are the true reason it has been a success.”
