Jan. 30, 2013. The annual Nesquik Bathing Beauty competition at Beech Mountain Resort will be held this Saturday, Feb. 2, in conjunction with kicking off the start of College Week discounts. The hybrid swimsuit and skiing/snowboarding contest is always an area favorite each winter.

“This is the first year that we’ve done the Bathing Beauty in conjunction with College Week, so I definitely think it’s more fitting,” said Talia Freeman, Beech Mountain marketing director. “I think it’s going to be a really fun event.”

Males and females are encouraged to wear their one-piece or bikini and ski or snowboard down the Play Yard Slope in their skimpy attire. Contestants are judged on beauty, poise, outrageousness and originality. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded.

Freeman said creativity has historically been rewarded, so the most creative costume is likely to win the top prize.

There will be prizes available from SCOTT Sports, Dakine and other leading winter sports brands.

bathing2Though always a popular event at Beech Mountain, with Bathing Beauty being held in conjunction with College Week it may draw an even bigger crowd.

“I think we already have about 10 contestants signed up, so we’re hoping to have a big turn out,” Freeman said. “We’ve got probably about 320 college students booked for the weekend so I anticipate a large crowd.”

Registration will be held the day of the event from 9 a.m. to noon and the event will start at 12:30 p.m. A $15 registration fee is required and includes a lift ticket.

Bathing Beauty is not the only thing going on up at Beech on Saturday either. The resort will be hosting bands Charlotte-based Pradigy GT and Johnson City-based Demon Waffle on Saturday evening with no cover charge.

College Week continues through Feb. 10. College students receive the group rate on tickets by showing their college ID in the Group Sales office. There will be live music, competitions and lots of fun throughout the week.
