An Appalachian Summer Festival Update: Tickets for Chicago and Doobie Brothers July 25 Sold Out

By Paul T. Choate

The Doobie Brothers

July 23, 2012. The 28th annual An Appalachian Summer Festival has been in full swing and is enjoying another great season this summer in the High Country. Performances by Bill Cosby, Creedence Clearwater Revisited and other have already drawn huge crowds. There is bad news for those wanting to see Chicago and The Doobie Brothers though. That show is completely sold out.

“We’re excited for the sellout and hope that the people that are there enjoy it,” said Megan Stage, marketing and public relations manager with the ASU Office of Arts and Cultural Programs. “It’s an exciting thing for this town to have two such large and legendary bands come to this area. It’s going to be a great night.”

According to the Farthing Auditorium box office, the show sold out last Tuesday, July 17, with 4,350 tickets sold. On Monday, July 23, 25 additional tickets were made available to the public and those sold out “within a matter of minutes,” according to a box office representative.

There are still a few great things left on the App Summer calendar of events, so even if you can’t go see Chicago and The Doobie Brothers you can still take advantage of the remaining events — including the 26th annual Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Walk on Saturday, July 28.

About Chicago and The Doobie Brothers
From Appalachian State University:

Chicago

Grammy-award winning Chicago is the highest charting American band in Billboard Magazine’s list of Top 100 artists of all time, selling over 100 million records in a five-decade career with 21 Top 10 singles, five consecutive No. 1 albums, 11 No. 1 singles and five Gold singles. Performing these hits are original band members Robert Lamm Lee Loughnane, James Pankow and Walt Parazaider, with Jason Scheff, Tris Imboden, Keith Howland, Lou Pardini and Drew Hester.

“Celebrating the 40th anniversary of their propulsive roots-based, harmony laden, guitar driven style that sold an estimated 40 million records over the course of four decades, The Doobie Brothers have recently released their first new album in ten years, World Gone Crazy, with a special guest appearance from Willie Nelson. Performing hits from this album, along with classics like China Grove, the band includes founding members Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons, and 30-plus year veteran John McFee.”
