Ameriprise Financial Partners with Hunger and Health Coalition for National Day of Service on Friday, Nov. 14

Nov. 13, 2014. On Friday, Nov. 14, the local branch of Ameriprise Fiancial will participate in the fifth annual National Day of Service with the Hunger and Health Coalition. Tomorrow, Ameriprise advisors, clients and employees will volunteer their time and service to help out hunger-relief organizations, part of a nationwide program to give back to the community.

The event will take place at the Hunger and Health Coalition, located at 141 Health Center Dr. in Boone.

imgresOn Nov. 6, Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Ambassadors completed the annual food drive, and more than 800 pounds of food were then delivered to The Hunger & Health Coalition. The Hunger and Health Coalition provides food and pharmacy assistance to low income families in the area.

“This time each year, Ameriprise the company serves in a National Day of Service through a partnership with Feeding America,” said Gary Moss of Ameriprise Financial, who is heading up this event for the first time this year.

“There are 10,000 financial advisors who are doing this, and we really wanted to help locally and support the Hunger and Health Coalition. It is pretty timely because the ASU food drive ended on Friday. Our volunteers will be sorting the bulk food that comes in, stocking food shelves, repacking bulk food items and assembling holiday meal packages.”

Volunteers will participate in the event from 8:30 a.m. until noon on Nov. 14.

Currently, about 25 volunteers are poised to help out with the event tomorrow, though a few more slots are still available. Those interested may contact Samantha Watkins at samantha.watkins@ampf.com.

“The beauty of this is that while we help to organize it and we volunteer, we also reach out to clients and also members of the community to volunteer and help with the effort. This is important because the community means so much to me, and this is a great way to give back to people who need it the most right now. I am really amazed at the turnout of people. It is really neat to see all of the involvement from various groups and individuals.”
