Watauga High School will host “Eighth Grade Parent Nights” for current eighth graders and their parents or legal guardians on two dates in January, with each date reserved for students and parents from specific schools.
The parent night for students and parents from Bethel, Cove Creek, Green Valley, and Hardin Park is Tuesday, January 5th, 5:30-6:30 p.m., with a snow date of January 11th at the same time. The night for students and parents from Blowing Rock, Mabel, Parkway, Valle Crucis, and Two Rivers is Wednesday, January 6th, 5:30-6:30 p.m., with a snow date of January 12th at the same time. Home school students, private school students, and parents or guardians of these students can attend either night.
The meetings will take place in the Watauga High School auditorium.
Eighth Grade Parent Nights are mandatory for eighth graders planning to attend Watauga High School next year and for their parents or legal guardians. The events will provide students and parents with important information about ninth grade registration, graduation requirements, and opportunities and expectations at Watauga High School. It will also be a time when parents and students will be able to meet some of the key people who will be working with them during the students’ freshmen year.
Watauga High School is a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12 with an enrollment of approximately 1,350 students. Students at the high school consistently outperform their peers across the state on most state test results, graduate at a higher rate than the state as a whole, and achieved the second highest SAT scores out of the state’s 115 school districts for 2014-15. The high school was also among the first in the state to provide an individual laptop computer for use by each student and faculty member.
