The Blowing Rock Community Foundation brings the renowned Groovy Nights back to the High Country for its ninth year of wacky, entertaining lip-syncing by locals throughout the community.
“It’s a really fun event with a bunch of great music, and you get to see a lot of your local friends,” Sandy Miller, Chair of the Blowing Rock Community Foundation, said, “doing these acts and performing these pieces.”
Groovy Nights will take place at the Blowing Rock Country Club at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27 and 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28 and Friday, Sept. 1.
According to Miller, some of the performances will be Dolly Parton, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Adele, June Carter and Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Whitney Houston and much more! Local people, including the Mayor of Blowing Rock, will dress up like one of the aforementioned people and present a performance of the ages for those in attendance.
The annual fundraiser is geared towards raising money for local college students who are native to Blowing Rock.
“The Blowing Rock Community Foundation gives scholarships and grants to local students,” Miller said. “We are handing out $120,000 in scholarships this year.”
The idea was first brought to the table nine years ago by a woman named Karen Curlin who had witnessed something similar to this in Florida. The idea caught on and took off.
“Nine years later, we are still here,” Miller said. “It’s been wonderful.”
Attire for the event is casual, and there will also be a cash bar functioning throughout the event.
“We hope that y’all come on out,” Miller said, “and have a good time.”
