5th Annual Mule Days Celebration at Leatherwood Mountain Resort Brings 125 Mules and Donkeys to Event, May 4-7

Come and enjoy over 125 Mules and Donkeys for a family oriented celebration!

Ferguson, NC, April 19, 2017:  Leatherwood Mountains Resort will be hosting it’s 5th Annual Mule Days Celebration. There will be over 125 Mules and Donkeys from ten states in attendance. Free to attend and watch, here is your chance to get up close and personal with some of the countries top Mules and Donkeys! Bring your folding chair, because you are going to want to stay all day!  

The event is held to fundraise for the Horse Friends Therapeutic Riding Program, based in Reidsville, NC. Horse Friends is run completely by volunteers, providing riding therapy while never charging the participants and even allows the siblings ride.  Many of their Volunteers will be helping at Mule Days this year.

We are excited to host The Lost Sea Expedition’s Bernie Harberts’ and his mule Polly for meet and greet, storytelling and tours of The Lost Sea Wagon. The documentary will air on Rocky Mountain PBS Station is about his 14 month, 2500-mile voyage across America by Wagon and Mule! All are welcome to come meet Bernie and Polly! Bernie Harberts’ is a Wilks County resident and has published several books about his other travels!

On May 4 and 5th, we are proud to host a Mulemanship Clinic taught by Paul Garrison III from Texas.  A Mule trainer who offers a great learning opportunity for mules, donkeys and riders.  We will be taking the clinic participants out on the trail and also offering private lessons.

Saturday, May 6th, starts The Supreme Trail Mule Competition will feature obstacles for the Mules and Donkeys to test their training and skills and a belt buckle will be awarded to the winner.  At 4pm on Saturday a Parade through the Stables and Camp Ground will allow you to see all the mules and donkeys dressed up in their finest.  On Saturday-night we will hold the Mule Celebration Dinner and present awards from the events competitions, RSVP for the dinner by April 25th, $12 per person (336) 973-5044.

Leatherwood will also be hosting a Chili Cook Off on Friday May 5th, preregister before 2pm that day. Judging and Taste Testing will be at 5pm at the Covered Pavilion! Several categories to compete in!

Don’t miss all the events offered through-out the four days (May 4-7), there will be a Poker Ride, Chili Cook-Off, Movie Night, Silent Auction, Coon Jump and more.  Activities such as a coloring contest and scavenger hunt will be available as free activities for kids and adults alike.
