The 4th of July: Join in the Events Throughout the High Country that Plan to Celebrate Our Nation

The Fourth of July means a lot of different things. It’s the celebration of America’s independence and freedom, but it also represents a time when people can get out and celebrate and connect with the community. Fireworks, cookouts, parades, you name it. Any celebration for the Fourth of July is a great celebration, especially if it involves uniting with others within the community as we celebrate our nation. This year, the High Country has plenty of opportunities for people from all over Watauga and the surrounding counties to celebrate in a variety of different ways. 

Boone

  • Saturday, July 1 : The Burning in Effigy of King George III will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Hickory Ridge Living Museum. 
  • Tuesday, July 4 :
    • Rain or shine, the Fourth of July Parade will occur in downtown Boone at 11 a.m. Refreshments at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center with the Mayor of Boone will take place after the parade. 
    • King Street Market, Boone’s new weekday farmers’ market, will be open from 4-7 p.m. before the fireworks with music, food trucks and a ton of great vendors. 
    • Festivities will start at Clawson-Bunley Park at 7 p.m. with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Banner Elk

  • Tuesday, July 4 : The Banner Elk Fourth of July Parade will take place in downtown Banner Elk at 11 a.m. Following the parade, the “Party in the Park” will take place at Tate Evans Park with food, games and the “Great American Duck Races.” 

Blowing Rock

  • Saturday, July 1 : The Blowing Rock Parade and Festivities will be happening in downtown Blowing Rock. Games and other festivities will start at 9 a.m. with the Independence Day Parade beginning at 2 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 2 : There will be live music and then the Park Dance — Summerdaze from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, July 4 : Joe Shannon’s Mountain Home Music will host the Mountain Home Bluegrass Boys and King Street Brass in A Fourth of July Dazzle, an indoor patriotic concert at the Blowing Rock School at 7 p.m.

Todd

  • Tuesday, July 4 : At 11 a.m., the Todd Liberty Parade will occur in downtown Todd. The parade ends at Cook Park where there will be live music, dancing and food. 

Crossnore

  • Tuesday, July 4 : The 4th of July festivities will begin with a parade at 4 p.m. with inflatable play places and games. Live music and a street dance starts at 7 p.m. At nightfall, the firemen will put on a fireworks display. 

Sugar Mountain

  • Saturday, July 1 – Tuesday, July 4 : From 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., the 4th of July Sports Shop Sale will occur with a 30-60% discount off select items sale. 
  • Tuesday, July 4 : Mountain top fireworks will go on, starting at 9:30 p.m.

Beech Mountain

  • Saturday, July 1 : The 47th Annual Beech Mountain Hog Roast will be happening from 6-8 p.m. with fireworks after dark at the Beech Mountain Resort. 
  • Tuesday, July 4 : The 4th of July Carnival will be hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department across from the Beech Mountain Town Hall. At this carnival, there will be bounce houses, classic carnival games, fire trucks, police cars and much more. The event takes place between 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the carnival will take place at the Buckeye Recreation Center. 

Tweetsie Railroad

  • Tuesday, July 4 : Tweetsie Railroad’s Fireworks Extravaganza will take place, starting at 9:30 p.m. ‘

Newland

  • Tuesday, July 4 : Starting at 2 p.m., Newland’s Annual 4th of July Celebration will take place on the Riverwalk. There will be numerous events, activities and contests for people of all ages. Fireworks will take place around 9:15 p.m. 

Spruce Pine 

  • Tuesday, July 4 : A parade at 5 p.m. starts off the Annual Spruce Pine 4th of July events. After the parade, there will be a party in Central Park with fireworks to follow. 

Ashe County

  • Tuesday, July 4 : From 3:00-9:30 p.m., there will be a 4th of July celebration at Ashe County Park. A shuttle will start running at 3:30 p.m. from the new courthouse parking lot and will run again at the end of the fireworks demonstration at dark. There will be live music throughout the whole event by Alibi at the Russ Blevins Shelter area beginning at 4:30 p.m. There will be inflatables for kids with all-day wristbands that are only $5. Concessions will be available and there will be a couple of speciality vendors. 

Bethel

  • Tuesday, July 4 : Beginning at 5 p.m. at Bethel Park, there will be a free BBQ supper, as well as great live music from 5-9 p.m. Bring a chair or a blanket. The event is family-friendly, and there is free parking as well. After dark, there will be the best fireworks show in the High Country! Come and celebrate America at Bethel Park!
