Wednesday April 18 between 11 AM and 2 PM all are welcome to F.A.R.M. (Feed All Regardless of Means) Cafe at 617 West King Street for the monthly ‘Buy Boone Lunch’ event where local businesses, groups, or organizations sponsors the day in support of the mission of F.A.R.M. Cafe. 4 Forty Four Construction of Blowing Rock is participating once again as a great supporter of the Cafe. We excited to welcome them as they return for the 4th time, after being the first business to support the Buy Boone Lunch program back in October 2016.
The monthly ‘Buy Boone Lunch’ days are like regular days at F.A.R.M. Cafe where guests donate what they can for a great lunch. Because of 4 Forty Four’s generous donation, covering the basic cost of the meals served on Wednesday April 18, each and every donation from patrons will be utilized by the cafe in its mission to fight food insecurity in the High Country.
Kevin Troyer of 4 Forty Four first learned of this opportunity at a Boone Chamber of Commerce business breakfast at the cafe in the summer of 2016. On Wednesday, once again Troyer and his employees will not only be ‘buying lunch’ but will also be serving as volunteer servers, cooks, and dishwashers working with the Cafe staff. Troyer says of the program, “As we think about helping others and F.A.R.M. Cafe in particular our minds conclude three specific things: We at 4 Forty Four, first and foremost wanted to help F.A.R.M. Cafe fulfill its purpose and mission. We recognize that organizations such as F.A.R.M. Cafe cannot exist in isolation. They need community to support and collaborate with them. Finally, it is the right thing to do. It feels good to serve and help others.”
“We are very grateful to Kevin and the crew at 4 Forty Four for leading the way through the ‘Buy Boone Lunch’ program” said Tommy Brown who serves as volunteer and development coordinator at the Cafe. “After more than a year of this monthly program with local businesses, groups, and organizations we are confident that ‘Buy Boone Lunch’ is a win/win opportunity for businesses and business leaders like Kevin who understand the benefit of giving back to the community through support of local non-profit organizations such as F.A.R.M. Cafe.”
As stated on their web-site (4fortyfour.com), “4 Forty Four is a community-oriented team of people that are very grateful to live and work in Western North Carolina. We take our job, as stewards of this community that you will live in, seriously. Our intent is to reach beyond traditional business models to actively and responsibly engage our community, not merely service it. We value relational capital and treating people right. This starts in our office where all team members are treated like family and extends to you, our clients, who we strive to involve at every level of our systematic process.”
Many businesses, groups, and organizations have participated in the ‘Buy Boone Lunch’, including 4 Forty Four Construction, Boone Drug, Inc., MPrints, Best Cellar/The Inn at Ragged Garden, Classes and Clubs from ASU, High Country Radio, High Country UCC, Boone Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Combs, Tennent & Carpenter, P.C., and most recently Appalachian Mountain Brewery. Upcoming monthly ‘Buy Boone Lunch’ days will be sponsored by Mast General Store, Lettuce-Produce, and several of the businesses mentioned above who are returning again. Any business or group that is interested in learning how they can participate is welcome to contact Tommy Brown at F.A.R.M. Cafe.
