Ryan Hollingsworth filed for the Boone mayoral race on Tuesday.

Hollingsworth is 23 years old. He said that he works at Mount Vernon Church and attends Appalachian State University. A conservative, Hollingsworth said that he is running for office because he wants to give back to the community that he grew up in.

Asked about individual issues that could be talking points on the campaign trail, Hollingsworth said that he didn’t want to say too much or be specific because he just filed earlier today.

“Well, I just filed for it and am still getting things together,” Hollingsworth said.

Later in the day, Hollingsworth reached out via email and said that his “points for running” are the following:

  • parking deck
  • finish Howard street project
  • support our local downtown merchants
  • stop wasting taxpayer money on lobbyists and unnecessary lawsuits.

Currently, only Hollingsworth and current Mayor Pro-Tem Rennie Brantz have filed for the mayoral race.

The special filing period for this race ends at noon on Wednesday.

Mayor Andy Ball, who had half of his term left, recently announced that he was resigning, effective July 31. At a council meeting last week, the council voted to give mayoral duties to Brantz, the current mayor pro-tem rather than select an interim mayor.
