June 27, 2013. 210 Appalachian State University student-athletes were named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2012-13 academic year, as announced by the league office on Thursday. A total of 2,018 student-athletes were recognized across the conference, hopping 2,000 for the first time in league history.
Football and women’s soccer paced the Mountaineers with 28 honorees each, followed by women’s track and field with 22 and men’s track and field, who placed 17 on the list.
Of the 210 Appalachian student-athletes recognized, 86 were honored with the Commissioner’s Medal for achieving a GPA of at least 3.50. Two Mountaineers posted a perfect 4.0 GPA including Alex Herbst (men’s soccer) and Debra Domermuth (women’s track and field/cross country).
Davidson had a league-best 258 student-athletes on the honor roll, while Wofford was second with 202. Each of the SoCon’s 12 league schools had at least 118 student-athletes on the list.
The SoCon Academic Honor Roll consists of varsity student-athletes who post a 3.0 grade-point-average or higher while passing at least 24 hours in two semesters.
