LEGO lovers of all ages are invited to the annual Boone Brick Building Contest, which will return to the Central Plaza at Boone Mall this Saturday, May 19 from noon until 4 p.m. to showcase local LEGO talent and craftsmanship. The event will bring together novice to advanced LEGO builders to raise funds for the Watauga Humane Society.

Participants can compete to build the best piece for their category or bring one that is already built for the Display Only category. The contest is divided into seven separate competition categories.

Last year, the event had 85 entries and raised $933 for the Watauga Humane Society. This year, they expect to surpass last year’s entries, with groups coming to participate from all over North Carolina and beyond. Participants can enter a raffle for a chance to win a prize. All proceeds from entries and the prizes for the contest range from a $10 gift card from Walmart to a $50 gift card from Walmart to a trophy. Raffle prizes vary but are equal to over $1,000. Every entry to the contest will receive a participant prize and a raffle ticket.

Early online registration will remain open through Friday, and on-site registration will be available on the day of the event. Judging will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., so all entries must be entered by 3 p.m.

Creations will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Creativity
  2. Originality
  3. Aesthetic Design
  4. Cuteness (for lower levels)
  5. Engineering/Difficulty (for higher levels)
  6. Innovation of Part Integration
