The 2017 Back 2 School Festival Will be Held Saturday August 12th Where Families in-need Can Pick up School Supplies for the Upcoming Year.

The Back 2 School Festival will be held  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday August 12th. The Back to School Festival benefits local Watauga families in need of assistance when it comes to back to school prep for their children. The back to school festival will offer students and families backpacks, school supplies, new shoes and socks and thrift store gift cards. It will be held at Watauga High School.

“The Back 2 School Festival was founded on the belief that every child deserves to start the school year feeling confident and prepared. A child that feels confident is more likely to succeed,” according to Back 2 School Festival website.

Local professional hair stylist will be providing free haircuts to students. They ask that parents and kids consider coloring a thank you card to give to the hairstylist as a tip and way of showing gratitude.

There will  also be different booths set up through local businesses and nonprofits hosting  activities throughout the event for families to participate in. Lunch will be provided by Green Street Catering which is typically a sandwich, chips, fruit and a drink. Lunch will go from 11-1 or until they run out.

The festival offers a wide variety of school supplies for kids in need. They ask that parents and students be considerate when picking up supplies as to not take anything that is not needed and to keep other families in mind so that the most people can leave with the proper back to school preparations. Last year, attendance for the festival was over 1600 people with almost 1000 being kids. Many parents and kids waited in line for 2 hours before the start of the festival. For those who want to shop early without the wait, volunteer positions are available with times that can fit most people’s schedules.

The festival will a fun an engaging event for the Watauga community, especially for school-aged children and parents who happen to need a bit of extra help this time of the year. Any family that may be struggling or will benefit from not having to worry about the burden of back to school shopping should absolutely attend the festival.

Those who are unable to attend the festival can contact Back 2 School Festival and they will try to work with you and your child’s school social worker in order to get your child the supplies they need during the beginning of the school year.
