The 18th Annual Stick Boy Bread Company Mayview Madness Returns to the High Country, Sept. 30

The 18th annual Stick Boy Bread Company Mayview Madness 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, September 30th in Blowing Rock.  Along with the 5K run, there will also be a 1-mile fun run for kids sponsored by Blue Ridge Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

Last year, a mix of cool mountain air and sunny skies brought over 320 runners out to enjoy the scenic views of the Blue Ridge as they climbed Wonderland Trail Road early Saturday morning.  They welcomed the challenge of a steep run through the Mayview neighborhood knowing that sticky buns, coffee, and even beer awaited them on the other side of the finish line.

The proceeds from this annual event benefit the Blue Ridge Conservancy, which works with willing landowners and local communities to permanently protect land and water resources with agricultural, ecological, cultural, recreational and scenic value in northwest North Carolina.

ZAP Fitness Running Center is offering 4 weeks of free training runs / clinics at Bass Lake in Blowing Rock in preparation for the Stick Boy Mayview Madness 5k. The training runs are open to all ages and abilities and will range in distance from 2-7 miles. The training runs will begin on September 6th and continue each Wednesdayevening until race day.  Runners can park and meet at 5:45 p.m. at the dirt parking lot on rt. 221 adjacent to the entrance to Moses Cone Park.

Volunteers for this event are crucial to its success.  Volunteers will help register runners, set up the signs along the course and assist with logistics at the finish line.  Volunteers get a race shirt and can enjoy Stick Boy treats and run in the race if interested.  Those who would like to volunteer can contact Nikki at nikki@blueridgeconservancy.org.

The event was started 18 years ago as a small fundraiser for what was then known as the High Country Conservancy. The race was originally established by a small group of people on the board of the High Country Conservancy as a fun way to raise money and also to highlight the scenic Mayview neighborhood in Blowing Rock.
