Blues lovers will get to enjoy a day full of music this Sunday, September 2, for the 16th Annual New River Blues Festival happening at the River House in Grassy Creek near the North Carolina and Virginia state line.

The New River Blues Festival combines a love of wonderful blues tunes with a picturesque backdrop of the beautiful New River. Music begins at 1 p.m. with gates opening at noon.

Mixed drinks, beer, wine, soft drinks and food will all be available to purchase at the event. Be sure to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and don’t forget a raincoat or umbrella as the music will go on rain or shine. Event organizers ask that you do not bring coolers or pets on the lawn.

The 2018 edition of the festival offers yet another packed lineup of great music. Some of the artists highlighting this years New River Blues Fest are Theodis Ealey, Nitro & Sarasota Slim, Wanda Johnson, The King Bees, Jeffrey Scott and Donald Ceasar the Blues Emperor.

The event has continued to grow in popularity and Our State Magazine recently said that the New River Blues Festival is one of the top 10 things to do in North Carolina this Labor Day Weekend.

Tickets can be purchased online here for $18 per person. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets will also be available to purchase at the gate.

The River House Inn is located at 1896 Old Field Creek Road, Grassy Creek, NC, 28631.

For an early preview of the show, be sure to head to the Hotel Tavern in downtown West Jefferson on Saturday, September 1 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. where Ashe County’s very own King Bees will be playing a kickoff show.
