Susan Newlin 
April 22, 1952 – April 6, 2018

    Ella Susan Newlin, Susan, born to J.W. and Pattie Newlin of Greensboro, NC passed away at her home in Foscoe the morning of April 6. Susan was raised attending New Garden Friends Meeting. An active member when she lived in Greensboro, she remained a member for the entirety of her life. She attended Appalachian State University and received her bachelors degree in teaching and continued her education there with a Masters degree and EDS. She married Ira Fowler in 1978 and added two sons to their family, Ryan and Ian. During this time she began teaching special education for Watauga County Schools, her career of thirty two years. Susan split these years between Hardin Park Elementary and Watauga County High School. As an educator she participated in organizing and facilitating the Special Olympics and other special education endeavors, and acted as a homebound educator for students who were unable to attend school. Susan committed the majority of her life to helping and teaching others. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Ira Fowler, her son Ryan Fowler, his wife Elizabeth and her grandsons Lochlan and Griffin, her son Ian Fowler, her brother Morris Newlin and family, and her brother Larry Newlin and family. Susan deeply touched all those fortunate enough to know her. Her love, kindness, thoughtfulness, tenacity, and humor are missed deeply. We are all grateful for the time we shared with her. Jean Miller Beach
April 28, 1938 – April 16, 2018

Jean Miller Beach, age 79, of Russell Beach Road, Vilas, passed away Monday morning, April 16, 2018, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Jean was born April 28, 1938 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Henry and Allie Jones Miller.

Jean is survived by her husband, Danny Beach of the home; one son, David Perry of Vilas; four daughters, Elizabeth Smith and husband Ron, and Elaine Shook and husband Phillip, all of Morganton, Susan Dotson and husband Phil of Boone, and Donna Perry and husband Bob Phillips of Vilas; two brothers, Lloyd Miller and wife Josephine of Boone, and Ernest Miller and wife Darlene of Vilas, and two sisters, Margaret Miller of Boone, and Luna Faye Auton and husband Richard of Newton. She is also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Ann Perry; two brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services for Jean Miller Beach will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, April 18, 2018, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will received friends Wednesday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 27103.

Ruth Virginia Wilcox Hicks
August 23, 1934 – April 13, 2018

Mrs. Ruth Virginia Wilcox Hicks, age 83, of 246 Dusty Road, Boone, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 in Orlando, Florida.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by one daughter, Mary Hoper and husband Steve, of Crescent City, Florida, two sons, Eddie Hicks and wife Pat, of Wilkesboro and Rusty Hicks of Boone, one granddaughter, Terry Simmons Page and husband Stephen, of Orlando, Florida, four grandsons, William Mack Simmons and wife Allison, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, James Allen Craven, of Sandy, Oregon, Erik Clayton Hicks, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Colter Rustin Hicks, of Hudson, North Carolina, one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Page, of Orlando, Florida, two great-grandsons, Vincent Page of Orlando, Florida and Noah Hicks of Greenville, South Carolina, two sisters, Opal Dancy and Sue Reese, four brothers, Bobby Wilcox and wife Barbara, Junior Wilcox, Butch Wilcox and wife Phyllis and Billy Wilcox and wife Anita. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Mack Hicks, father and mother Arden James Wilcox and Floy Norris Wilcox, three sons, Dusty, Jerry and James Hicks, one daughter, Virginia Hicks.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Virginia Wilcox Hicks will be conducted Thursday afternoon, April 19, 2018, at 2:30 PM, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:30. Officiating will be Reverend Zane Tester. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:30, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

James Corey Kidder
May 16, 1971 – April 11, 2018

Mr. James Corey Kidder, age 46, of Vilas passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Watauga Medical Center.

Dean-ne Eller Lowe
July 31, 1962 – April 15, 2018

Dean-na Eller Lowe, age 55 of Sugar Mountain, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

She was born on July 31, 1962 in Forsyth County, North Carolina, a daughter of Charles “Buster” Eller and Frankie Lewis Eller.

After 20 years of living at Life Care Center in Banner Elk due to a tragic brain aneurysm, God finally called her home.

Dean-na served her country in the 82nd Airborne of the Army. She enjoyed serving her country and she also enjoyed being a Police Officer. She enjoyed horses and everything to do with horses.

She was preceded in death by her Mother, Frankie Lewis Eller and two children Natasha Lowe and Misty Lynn Martin.

Deanna leaves behind to cherish her memory her: Father, Buster Eller and wife Jo of Elk Park, NC, Sister, Dereka Plyler and husband Dan of Sugar Mountain, NC, Sister Tyra Villalvazo and husband Juan of Long Beach, CA., Brother Danny Eller and wife Anabel of Wesley Chapel, FL., Nephews: Daniel Plyler of Banner Elk, NC, Derek Plyler of Newland, NC, Danito Eller of Wesley Chapel, FL, Juanito Villalvazo of Long Beach, CA, Nieces: Devyn Plyler of Spartanburg, SC, Coralia Eller of Wesley Chapel, FL, Mya Villalvazo of Long Beach, CA, Monet Villalvazo of Long Beach, CA, and a bunch of Cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service for Dean-na Lowe will be held on Sunday April 22, 2018 at 3 PM at Elk Park Christian Church in Elk Park, NC.
