On April 7 and 8, LUNAFEST, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers and bringing women together in their communities, will be presented in two local screenings in April. All proceeds benefit the Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge, Girls on the Run of the High Country and the Breast Cancer Fund.
The first screening will be on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Greenbriar Theater of Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union, followed by a Q-and-A session beginning at 8 p.m.
The second screening will be held April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harvest House Performance Center in Boone. Intermission will feature complimentary movie snacks and an auction of the winning pieces from BraVa! – A community competition to creatively and festively decorate a bra.
Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for the general public. They can be purchased at the door or at www.lunafest.org.
This film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through six short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
Since the film festival began in 2000, LUNAFEST has raised more than $857,000 for Breast Cancer Fund and over $2,100,000 for other women’s non-profit organizations. Local screenings are hosted by Mast General Store and the ASU Beaver College of Health Sciences.
