Tropical Storm Hermine is bringing nasty weather to the North Carolina coast this afternoon and tomorrow. For the High Country, skies will be cloudy on Friday, but the forecast looks sunny and cool for the weekend.

“Hermine effects on our weather today are limited to clouds, a spotty light shower or two possible, and cooler temperatures. Skies clear tonight leading to an extended period of clear skies and pleasant weather with progressively warmer temperatures,” RaysWeather.com posted in its forecast discussion on Friday.

The N.C. Department of Public Safety issued a release this morning stating the “State Emergency Response Team activated the Joint Information Center in response to Tropical Storm Hermine, which is expected to impact North Carolina starting this afternoon.”

The latest information can be found on the ReadyNC website, on Twitter @NCEmergency and Facebook. Real-time traffic, flood, weather and shelter information is available via the ReadyNC mobile app, available for download for free on iPhones and Android devices.

While the expected dreary weather on the coast could bring folks away from the beach and up to the mountains, Watauga County Tourism Development Association Director Wright Tilley said that this situation usually has a “more of an impact” during the summer season when school is not in session.

Plus, since all of the town hotels are already booked for Labor Day Weekend, Wright said he didn’t know how much “spur of the moment” tourism would impact Boone and the surrounding areas.
