Dave Calvert Collective Adds Another Free Concert to Close Newland Season on Friday

Although free Friday night concerts in Newland were scheduled to conclude last week, one of the High Country’s most popular groups has decided to give an encore performance and close out the season with another free show.

Brought to you by the Greater Newland Association, which aims to build a sense of community among residents and local businesses in the Newland area, the free weekly concerts at Riverwalk Park have been a hit on Friday nights all summer long.

“It’s to bring fun and entertainment to people who live in the greater Newland area,” GNA member Steve York said in a previous interview. “We’re encouraging people from outlying areas like Linville, Cranberry, Elk Park, Pineola, Plumtree and Linville Falls to come out and spend their time in Newland and support local businesses.”

The Dave Calvert Collective, a local favorite, played their annual show on Friday, Aug. 5. Despite the rain, they kept rocking out for the folks in the crowd, and have decided to play one more time.

“Due to a rain event back on Aug. 5, a lot of our usual crowd left early; and, although the Dave Calvert Collective stayed and played anyway, they felt most of their fans weren’t able to fully enjoy the show,” said York. “So, they’re back for a bonus performance this Friday.”

The DCC will have you up and dancing the night away with a variety of R&B, rock and pop tunes you know and love.

The fun begins at 6 p.m. at the Riverwalk Bandshell on Friday night, Aug. 26.

In the event of rain, an alternate concert location will be posted on the website by 4 p.m. on Friday.
