Grammy Winning Singer-Songwriter Pat Donohue Picks His Way to the Jones House

“Pat Donohue is one of the greatest finger pickers in the world today,” said master guitarist Chet Atkins.  Donohue performs at the Jones House on Wednesday, May 4, continuing the 2016 Spring Jones House Indoor Series.
Grammy Award winning finger-picking guitars, Pat Donohue, has devoted his musical career to the art of finger-style guitar playing and songwriting.  He recently finished a nearly two-decade long stint as the guitarist and songwriter for “A Prairie Home Companion” radio program on NPR.
Donohue has returned to touring and teaching workshops on the road, including being a staff member at numerous music camps, such as the Augusta Heritage Center, Swannanoa Gathering, and Puget Sound Guitar Camp.
Though most known for his work on Prairie Home Companion, Donohue has had a prolific solo career as well, including more than 10 albums and numerous instructional videos.
Donohue considers himself a folk guitarist, though he has eclectic tastes in music, helping him create a sound that blends jazz, blues, and folk styles.  Over the years, he has captivated audiences with his unique original compositions, dazzling instrumentals, and humourous song parodies.
His honors include a 2005 Grammy Award for his participation on Pink Guitar, a compilation of Henry Mancini tunes played on acoustic guitar, and the title of National Finger Picking Guitar Champion.  His original tunes and songs have been recorded by Chet Atkins, Suzy Bogguss, and Kenny Rogers, to name a few.
“The Jones House will make a great venue for fans of Pat Donohue,” says concert organizer, Mark Freed.  “The performance space is closer to the size of Prairie Home Companion dressing room than the large stage and theaters he frequently performs.”
In addition to the performance, Donohue will be leading a finger-style guitar workshop, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Jones House.  The workshop is free for people attending the evening concert.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, with the doors opening at 7:00 p.m.  Concerts take place in the Mazie Jones Gallery in the Jones House, and there is a limit of 40 seats for the performance.  Advanced reservations are encouraged, as the show is expected to sell out.  Seats are $20 per person and will include an opportunity to meet the artist.
