Tweetsie Railroad is proud to announce the return of Letterland© and the opportunity for the littlest of learners to meet their favorite Letterland characters. The magical transformation of the theme park provides a place for children to learn and play on May 3-5 and May 10-12, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Letterland will celebrate a decade at Tweetsie Railroad in 2016.
Letterland¹s proven method of using characters and actions to teach phonics provides a systematic and motivating framework for developing full literacy with children ages three to eight. Each Letterland character has a personality and lives in a realistic environment with alliterative objects. Popular characters such as Clever Cat, Harry Hat Man and Red Robot will be on-site to interact with visitors and provide children with a visual memory, serving as another motivator to continue learning. Park attendees can ride Talking Tess¹s train, visit Eddy Elephant¹s Gem Mine, take a spin on Firefighter Fred¹s Ferris Wheel and much more.
Letterland has played an important role in the literary achievements of children throughout the state of North Carolina and neighboring states. Local reading specialist Kathy Oliver first brought the program to Tweetsie Railroad in 2007. Since then, Letterland at Tweetsie Railroad has grown to serve as a celebration of students¹ learning achievements, and reading assessment scores continue to improve in districts using Letterland. School children from North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee have all attended Letterland at Tweetsie Railroad.
Letterland fills up quickly, so making advance reservations is required. School groups receive a special Letterland rate of $22 for children ages 3 to 12 and $38 for children age 13 and up. Golden Rail Season Pass holders can bring their pass for free admission. Once a group reservation is completed, the group will receive a guaranteed assigned train ride time and lunch time and location. Educators can access curriculum guides on Tweetsie Railroad¹s website to prepare students for the trip.
